Madrid "Love In"

Ruth Aber is organizing an event to raise the spirits of the residents of Madrid.  It will be held from 1 to 5 Saturday September 26 along main street.  Please see the open letter below for details.

First and foremost I would like to start this letter by saying I Love Madrid. There is no other place I would rather be. One of the best things about this town was that we have always agreed that it was OK to disagree so long as we could still sit at the same table together. Respect was everything. I understand that places change and grow but the mood in the air has become tense and angry and that is not the way we need to live. So this is what I am asking. I am trying to put together a "MADRID LOVE IN". Sept. 26th from 1-5pm. It is not about issues, the direction the town is going or anything else. It is about coming together as a community and showing that we can get along. For one day we can put our issues aside, for 4 hours we can show NM that we know how to get along.

There has been way to much negativity lately and it has reached the newspapers. This helps no one and hurts everyone. I would like to invite the papers to cover this side of life in Madrid that shows us as a diverse and respectful community for all that live here.

I will be printing up peace signs. If you are a store or house and want to participate all you need to do is hang up a peace sign outside your door. A few hippie style decorations wouldn't hurt either. And dress up would be fabulous. This is the 40th anniversary of Woodstock, surely we can do as well four 4 hours. I am proposing poetry to be spoken while walking through town and I am proposing strolling singers with or without an instrument. I want everyone to greet everyone . I want someone to offer free hugs, I want it all! This is not for or about the merchants. This is for the towns people to come out and enjoy our community. We need to come together again, I want the locals to come and play!

If you would like to join me in this endeavor, I could use a few volunteers and suggestions. I am asking the shops to put out cookies, popcorn, or snacks the way we do at Christmas. This is for everybody to enjoy. Peace and love should not be limited to one holiday a year.

I know Sept. 26th is less than a month away but love, peace and respect should not take that long to organize. If you wish to join me or volunteer in any way you can please either call me, Ruth Aber at 474-0386, email me at aruthabelle@aol.com or come into mostly Madrid on either Monday, Wednesday or Saturday. A peaceful and happy community is always the answer.
