The Park offers to all who visit it recreation, education, and a renewed sense of connection to the land. It is a place in which we may all better understand our own part in a shared history.

Cerrillos Turquoise History
The Cerrillos Turquoise Mines, located 20 miles south of Santa Fe, are the oldest and largest prehistoric mines in North America. Anasazi mining activity here dates back to about 500 A.D. Pueblo Indians mined Cerrillos turquoise extensively and traded it with many other cultures. Cerrillos turquoise was part of a sophisticated trade route. Sea shells and other exotic items were carried vast distances to trade for this "Sky Stone".

Cerrillos turquoise is in the Crown Jewels of Spain. In the late 1800's,Tiffany & Co. extracted millions of dollars worth of Cerrillos turquoise from these mines. Our mine produces turquoise that varies in color from pale blue to deep emerald green. Cerrillos turquoise is some of the finest and most rare turquoise available.

Our new performance space is now used every Saturday afternoon at 1:00pm Click here for information on the upcoming shows.

In the years since 1973 we, Diana & Mel Johnson, have gradually been transforming our old MADRID GARAGE BUILDING into one of the largest exhibition spaces in New Mexico. We have been described as an "eclectic" gallery because we have exhibited such a wide range of art styles. Now we are narrowing the focus of the artwork in our changing exhibitions. For at least a century in art, the emphasis has not been on the illusion of deep space but on "the picture plane", not on photographic realistic representation, but on design & composition. Artists have created many styles that “relate to reality” but keep the viewer involved with marks that go up, down, sideways, diagonal, etc. across the flat surface being used. Sculptors too, have often abandoned realism for a freer expression of form. With art in the gallery reflecting this focus we hope to create a visual dialogue for the public and the artists that will assist the artists in their efforts to break new ground in the world of art. As we have always strived for the best quality in the works of the 100 northern New Mexico artists we represent, we will continue to show the best documentary photography and landscapes in all media in other parts of the gallery.
