Step back into time... in a coal mining town with the latest and greatest of technologies. An area known as "Coal Gulch" began around 1860, as the A.T & S.F. Railroad expanded the town became populated with a mulit-ethnic community of over 2000 residents into "MAD-rid".

Madrid had its own coal-fed powerplant, by the 1920s every home was wired for electricity. Not only had the town become known for its coal, but nationwide for it famous Christmas lights. Visitors came from all over, to see the lights and attend the Madrid Miners baseball games held at The Oscar Huber Memorial Ballpark, which was the first lighted ballpark in the west. After WWII, the demand for coal deminished... soon the last train carrying coal left town and everything ground to a hasty halt. The few houses still occupied were evacuated, the lights in the few stores still operating were turned off for the last time. Madrid then became a known as a "Ghost Town" by 1959. Exhibits include the Electrical, Fire, Edison, Powerplant, Madrid Christmas, Baseball, Coal Mining, Ghost Town, Movies and more!
